dog show war wounds...

It was a week ago yesterday since my head became "close" with the evil bungee cord from hell...
I didn't post about it, but many heard the story already.... Guess it needs to go down in blog infamy (the blog is a chronicle of things that happen to me afterall, right?? ;-) )....

Friday June 3rd, after the show, the dogs and I went back to the car to pack up. I got the dogs all loaded up in the car, and was securing things down before I left. I had a soft crate that I was bungeeing down to the top of one of the wire crates. I'm short. This is a known fact. So I tossed the one end of the bungee cord towards the passenger side, over the soft crate. I tugged it lightly and it felt like it caught, so I pulled it towards the front of the crate (towards me). I had it almost latched down when the back end of the bungee flew forward, nailing me just to the right of center in my forehead.

As is common when you get hurt, you hold the hurting area and double over. As I turned and doubled over, I saw a lady walking a Boxer past. She stopped and asked if I was ok. I stood up and moved my hand from my head. Her eyes got big and said "you're bleeding pretty bad". I wiped my hand across my forehead and it came back bloody, and then I saw the blood down my arm.

I keep paper towels in the car, so I grabbed some and started applying pressure. She went back to her motorhome to get some ice. On her way, she asked someone about a first aid station. When she came back to me, I had finished packing up the rolling cart and had moved my car. I reparked in the shade (had to leave the dogs in the car, and it was about 11:30am - thankfully it was literally right across from the beach!!) and went to the first aid station.

It'll scar, but I'll have a "dog show war wound" to tell stories about... LOL It still is tender, but is healing up well... I'm just glad I didn't have to have Frankenstein stitches in my forehead! ;-)

This is another testament that dog people are the best people. :)

DOCNA day two

Before getting to the agility area, I had to walk past the sheepies... When I saw two little black sheepie ears sticking out of the trough, I knew I needed to stop.... :)

And on with day two... some amazing weave pole action....

Lookit that JUMP!
I loved this lady's dogs! (you'll see another in a bit!)

This dog was SOOOO excited to get started.... it's handler put it in a down, and the intent in it's eyes was amazing...
The athleticism.... oh my.
This is the same little guy from yesterday whose handler had to "talk" to him about going over the A frame ... LOL

And Diane and John Paster's girl, Lottie - bred by Jennifer Roberson...
Go Lottie, GO!

This was the jump that she knocked... :(
what a great finish! :)
And their Pemmie, Chupie (not sure of the spelling)

Lookie that dog fly!!!
Koty and her dog Striker... Koty is a trainer at MLF where Kota and I have been training... :)
And Connor... *melt* I absolutely fell head over heels for this dog.... *melt*
A sweet little girl who I thought might have been a Cardi mix, but am not really sure what she was... other than a great jumper! :)

and of course, the BC :)
a lab mix of some sort - great shot :)
and a Keeshond, I think....
Diane and Chupie doing Gamblers later in the day....

and a fast as lightening Sheltie :)
Got more sun today, and more learning.... I can't wait to enter Kota. It'll either be in Mid-April, or Mid-June... depending on when my BC buddy enters her dog ;-)

dang it, Penni.... again :P

Penni's comment on her blog about cleaning made me think... "aw crap, and I have them before SHE does, and MY house isn't clean either!!!!"

The beauty of having house guests who are also dog folk, is that you don't have to stress about the dog hair as much! ;-)

They'll have to forgive me for my office, which is in a constant state of disaster but even worse recently, as I have been going through TONS of really old paperwork and shredding it (and then stopped).... I figure if one room out of 5 that they'll have regular access to is a mess, they'll forgive me ;-)

They won't repossess dogs for it anyway ;-) Hee hee (I already threatened Tom about ringing the bell ;-) ) (those of you who haven't been to Casa de Cannon may not be aware of their door mat...)

Playing agility

Today we went to Amy and Zoe's house (and Mason's too) to play agility on Zoe's agility course her parents were so nice to make for her :) Zoe is a BC in our Thursday night agility class and Kota and she just LOVE each other. Amy invited us over, and I asked if I could bring Chance too... 1) to get both boys out of the house and away from Sedona for a bit, and 2) to introduce Chance to agility.

We had a great time!

Here, Chance, Mason and Kota are watching Zoe do agility.

Chance and Zoe playing... Zoe loves everyone :)
Chance watching someone do agility
Zoe watching Mason. Isn't she pretty? See the mini-me in the background?? ;-)
While it's not a great video in terms of what he can do, it's something ;-) I think he was set off by the gravel surface... unstable to jump from and land on. He was getting better by the end of our visit.

And Chance did VERY well, having never seen agility equipment before. He was playing in the tunnel, jumping the jumps on command and even did the teeter a few times! Amy has wide weaves set up and he did those with a lot of guidance and encouragement also. I think I have another Agility dog in the making :)

Kota was just being Kota... I liked how his tail came straight up from in between his ears! ;-) Gotta love him!
This is Mason. He was getting in trouble for harrassing Chance ;-) Chance kept looking him in the eye, and Mason was having none of it ;-) In the end, they were all buddies :)
Chance being typical goony Chance :)
Kota standing at attention looking at something off in the distance near the house.
Zoe and Kota meeting nose to nose :)
We had a great time, and plan on going back on Tuesday. Once Sedona's not in season, I plan on taking her to Amy's too... maybe i can train my other two the basics as I'm training Kota "officially".... they can get some "hand me down" training :)

I Rescued a Human Today

I rescued a human today.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.

I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.

Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

my trip to Tucson

while it wasn't a good dog show weekend, I learned a lot about a fellow Cardi folk, and had the pleasure of staying with her at her home in Tucson...(and eating her yummy meals!!)

She has wildlife that comes right up to her property.... meet Mister Peter Cottontail.....

and Peter, with his friend Mr Quail (there were TONS of quail and dove!)
and the two "show dogs" behind the fence.... they were a bit put off with having to be outside more than normal, but they seem to have survived and are no worse for it ;-)
My dogs are SPOILED. Oh wait, this is common knowledge. But damn, it's a good thing they're CUTE! :)

Kota even made an appearance ring side on Sunday, since it was easier to take him and just leave from the fairgrounds... he l-o-v-e-s dog shows... he has the attitude of a show dog.... too bad he doesn't have the body to be a special ;-) shhhh don't tell him i said that! :) It's almost been 4 years since I finished him.... good golly!

And while in Tucson I got some great Skywatch photos too! Can't share them yet tho! They're reserved for Skywatch Fridays! :)

Pat Jensen

I read today, that Pat Jensen (Larchmont) died. i've known her almost as long as I've known Kathleen Mallery (1998). Pat was there in Pems, and to my surprise, in the Cardi ring too. Never overly warm and fuzzy with me, but always cordial... saying the "hello" and "how are you" things. She's one of those "icons" in the breed... in both breeds. A talented artist to boot. While she and I were never close, she did know my name, as I knew hers... always a fixture at the NorCal shows.

I saw her at the SoCal specialty. I made sure to say hello and goodbye, as I knew she wasn't doing well. It was even rumored she left early because she wasn't well. Whatever the rumors, I'm sad to see her go. Corgis have lost a fixture... Rest in peace Pat... be free of that horrid cancer.

SCL BS

I finally had it... just couldn't take it any more... so I wrote to Karen... and this was her reply:

"Please have anyone else you know of who is irritated write to me as well, as soon as I can show there's enough people she's rubbing the wrong way I can let the others decide whether or not to pitch her off the list. She was off for several months after her nasty email last time, then asked to resubscribe just in time to announce her new litter. "

There's more, but please... if you are as annoyed as I am about what is going on with SC-L, drop her a line.

And to finish the beautiful spring day... we have storm clouds during sunset :)

Enjoy :)
