like father..... like son.....

No one can ever say to me "Chance looks nothing like his father". And heck, it only took Carbon 12 years to reproduce his eyes! ;-) I wish Chancey had his tongue sticking out like Carbon's is here, but we'll have to make do with what we have ;-)

Chance the mighty hunter...

It's so nice this afternoon, I thought I'd sit outside with the dogs for a bit. Well Chance caught his eye on something near the big sage bush in the back and started walking around it, while hunting. Chance is a great hunter, by the way ;-) Well I couldn't see for a while what it was, and then I saw it was a lizard. They must have gone around the bush a good three times before the lizard took off directly for me, Dakota and Sedona who were all sitting on the porch. Kota lays right up against the sliding glass door and that lizard just zoomed right in next to him. Climbed over the top of him (all the while I could see it very slowly registering in Kota's head..."what the....") and ran in between the screen door and the sliding glass door. It wriggled for a bit and then stopped... I moved the screen door in hopes to free it. It took some time, but i was able to get him out...

not sure if he's dead or alive... but I got the pictures to prove it! I figure before I let the dogs out again, I'll check. If he's still there I'll wrap him up and toss him. If he's not, well then good for him :)

todays adventures

I decided I was heading to Verde River today... it was supposed to be cool and had a forecast for rain. The road I ended up needing to take was closed, so I ended up going here instead. (this is a satellite view of the area from Google Maps :) ) (this is also Verde River, but a different area)
I was SUCH a mean dog mom and made them cross the river with me... they had to swim some, and I had to pull them along some, but we made it :)
And the adventure begins...
Much to sniff.... many many river rocks to pee on ;-)

Kota decided he was going to relax in the sandy area while the kids snooped around...

Then we headed off up the banks of the river....

This was a pretty little plant river side... which reminded me that sometimes we really need to take a few minutes and get out to see the little things...
I couldn't go any farther this route, so we turned around....

This interesting moth/butterfly just parked itself there, so I took it's picture. It looks pretty torn up! :(
Something you'd think you'd only see in the Sahara ;-)
And yet there are SHELLS right nearby :)
back to the water again... oddly curious, but not real eager to get in..
but even better than water is a pile of horse poo Chance found to roll in... *sigh* (Sedona joined in too... oh joy)
Pretty shot of the river with the surrounding mountains (and clouds!!)
Planning our attack to get back across the river...

Kota decided he wanted to relax...
I couldn't believe I could get these two to sit STILL long enough to snap this picture... they were perpetual bundles of energy!
We crossed the river again (dogs thought that I had a horribly unfair height advantage when crossing said river ;-) ) and hopped in the car... travelled down the way to McDowell Mountain Park where I decided to take a short hike with the dogs (to see if I could get them (and me) to dry off any!). This was the early parts of the short hike...
I told them to STAY so I could take a picture...
...of this cactus. I really had to watch the dogs and the cactus but I think they understand... I wouldn't even let them on the same side of the path with a cactus... that was the LAST thing I needed was to be carrying a 30+ pound dog back to the car... hell no.
And here is some more of the scenery on the hike...

on our way back to the car...

Hopped in the car and came back home... 1st order of business.... BATHS FOR DOGS.
She's so unsuspecting.... (evil grin)
And now she's washed and blown dry here...
Chance next... he was MOST unhappy with me.... (as you can probably tell by his FACE), but he's still put together right and not high in the butt (YAY!) :) And all clean!! :)

Kota was next, but while I was bathing him, I looked up and saw this....
Back to Kota...

He sure did mature and get GOBS of chest... he's a little on the heavy side right now, and he's starting to blow coat... (damn him)

Now I have three POOPED dogs :) Think I'm going to go watch a movie :)

I *am* a freak

I was being a bum, watching ABC Primetime... Medical Mysteries. They started talking about this thing called "Alice in Wonderland syndrome" and it caught my attention. I watched the whole piece and got myself to the computer to do some reading... I've had this since I was a little kid and had no idea why or what it was... and didn't know how to describe it so I never said anything. Mine don't always accompany migraines, and mine DO often include a shaking in my vision. I never knew there was anyone else who experienced something like that... I'm more like the girl with the music.... happens mostly to me in front of the computer or a book... I've learned a little more through Wikipedia. Guess when I go to the doctor that's something else to mention... ;-)

Dakota update - YAY

As of last night (late) he was putting weight on all four and was walking without a limp. After Carolyn brought up an ex-pen, I set it up for him in my room for overnight. This morning he is wanting to play and is still walking on all fours with no issue. I think he has missed playing with the kids the most... I plan on keeping him quiet one more day or maybe afternoon I'll let him out for a quick play session since he's seeming so much better ... we'll see.

lame dog and other crappy things

Well Kota is now on 100% crate rest.... he started limping not even an hour ago and now he won't put ANY weight on his right front foot... I just gave him 1/2 an aspirin and shut him in his crate (which I almost NEVER do). I'll check him in an hour, and make a decision then I guess.. I have no idea what he could have done.. everything looks and feels normal... ideas?

And the other crappy things... the other 2. They've been crappy.. going back and forth between them. One day she's solid and he's not... next it's reversed... they're both on a liquid only diet right now.. gotta get this crap GONE.

an impromptu photo shoot
