The Chronicles of Adam - day 10

No pictures from Adam's 10th day.

Now that things have settled, I will fill in the blank of the 10th day.

I came home for lunch to let Sedona out and check on the kid... all was well.  I came home at the end of my day and Adam was a bit lethargic as I was changing the towels in the whelping box.  I picked him up when I was done and he was REALLY lethargic.  I flipped him onto his back, and he was still really lethargic.  His color looked off, and it was as if he was in a really really deep sleep.

I finally figured out how to use my phone (crap - those smart phones are tough to use when your brain is not working) and called the vet.  Through Adam in the box and started breaking countless speed limit laws on my 25 minutes to the vet clinic.

The doctor had left for the day, but just as I got in there and hollered "HELP", I saw him walking through the doors back to the doctor area in street clothes.  They whisked him away and I stepped outside so I could formally lose it (I had to keep it together to get us there safely).  They came out to ask me if they could do x-rays, to which I said "of course".  I asked them to get his blood glucose levels as well.  They placed me in the therapy room (probably so as not to freak out the other patrons).  They took an x-ray and saw some pneumonia.  He was given oxygen and was reluctantly nursing from the bottle of Esbilac (he prefers mom's milk, thankyouverymuch).

After observation, the doctor felt that he was ok to go home with antibiotics (Clavamox) every 12 hours.  When he got home, he was MUCH stronger and active. He nursed every hour to two hours and was quite active last night.

Today he is still as mobile, and appears to be SO much better.  He'll receive Clavamox every 12 hours for 10 days.

Later today, I will post a Chronicle update for day 11.  In the meantime, please keep little Adam in your thoughts and prayers.  He's a strong little guy - let's hope he kicks this nasty pneumonia!
