Rest In Peace Reeses : 5/21/96 - 6/24/11

Reeses.
My first Corgi and introduction to the wonderful world of short legged friends...

My ex-boyfriend from college and I acquired this little back yard bred Pemmie in September of 1996.  Ironically he was bred in the same town I grew up in, and the same town I work in now.  He was a faithful companion and tremendous hiking partner.

When it came time for me to leave that relationship, I had a hard time leaving Reeses.  He was an amazing friend.

I would hear from my ex-boyfriend occasionally letting me know how Reeses was doing or when he needed medical advice.

Today I saw on Facebook that a mutual friend of ours had said something to my ex's sister about Reeses and heaven.

I texted the ex, and this was his reply:
"Had to put him down on Friday.  Sucks.  Had bad stroke and seizures.  He was old but went peacefully.  He couldn't stand, sit, or anything as a result of the seizures.  Won't go into more sad details, but it was his time."

Thank you for the wonderful memories Reeses.  I have always and will always love you.  Thank you for giving me a great introduction to Corgis.

You will always be remembered on your very best day - hiking the trails with us in college and barking at the camera as a young dog.

You will never be forgotten, buddy.

Run free.

a month worth of happenings, and some... (photo heavy)

The kid is curious about EVERYTHING. :)
Grandma Kim (Shira) came out for a quick visit to see how the kid was growing up.  We agreed that I should grow him up a bit more and change his name (in case he stays longer than just a bit).  He is now Mason - and will be registered as Tanalyn's First Stone.

9.5 weeks old

sometimes, he's just CUTE.

*grin*
We packed up and went to San Diego over the weekend of the 18th of June.  My cousin got married on the beach behind Hotel del Coronado on 6/18.  It was SO beautiful there..  :)

mountains made of boulders.

We stayed down the street from the Maritime Museum.  It was a great walk for all of us!

Mason sitting on a big wooden chunk along the harbor.  He turned many heads sitting there.  :)

Mason's first hotel visit!

pretty girl, who is steadily losing every hair on her body

There's a spot left for me...  barely.  LOL

Yes, he WAS having a mischievous moment

My cousin, being a goof on our way to his wedding.
My cousin's daughter, her husband and I surprised my cousin for his wedding day.  We met them at his hotel and said HI while he was waiting for the elevator.  It was an amazing time, surprising him...  :)

Later, when we were taking pictures, I looked up and saw this..
!!!!  I know, right?!?!!  I died.  It was hilarious.  I had to take pictures to prove that it did really happen! (even if it wasn't for me! ;-)  )
We went to dinner and they went bar hopping after the wedding.  It was a picture perfect day, and I'm so happy that I could be there to share that with them.  Before I left the next day, I took the dogs to the beach on our way out of town...  THIS is what I saw when I came over the crest to see the beach.  Lots of people and dogs!! *note the guy on the left - I think he's saying "crazy lady with 4 dogs and a camera!"* LOL

For those who know me, crowds aren't my 'thing', so when I saw the gobs of folks at Dog Beach, I *almost* turned around.  I just couldn't tho - I had come that far...
The official sign for the dog beach.  It said "the Original" and I think it had a date of 1972 on it.

Oh the crowds!
Sedona was SO excited to be at the beach!  It was adorable.  She'd been once before and it must have really made an impression on her.  Her 5th birthday was the day of Don and Judy's wedding (the 18th), so unfortunately, she didn't get her extra special day.  I hope the beach made up for it...
Sedona LOVES the beach!!!!

Mason experiencing the ocean for the first time

*must keep tail as HIGH as possible so as not to get it wet* ;-)

Do you have any idea how hard it is to take pictures AND manage four dogs on the beach on leash with all other dogs OFF leash??  *sigh*  I got Chance's foot anyway ;-)

"So ya see, kid..."

waiting an approaching dog

"if i stand really still, maybe this water stuff will go away again"

keepin the tail dry... ;-)

See - Chance really WAS there!!

my two water-babies (again - note the matching tails to the sky thing)

and the surf comes in :)

our posed beach picture.
The trip was great, and the puppy handled the trip like a TROOPER!  House training was ok, socialization was great.  He was rock solid the whole time - I was so proud of him!
Mason's FAVORITE spot in the world - the laundry room
Mason is doing well with house training.  We've been working on going outside since he was about 6 weeks old.  Now we're working on getting the hang of the doggie door.
Really?  Doggie door is RIGHT there, dude.

"I left something for you, mom"
Another 'joy of living in the desert' moment occured this week..  I saw something that I thought was a big moth on my wall in my bedroom.  When I came closer, I noticed it was *this* guy.  Little baby lizard.  :)

too cute!
I put him outside in the bushes - I hope he survives.  :)

Ok - So that's what's been happening...  in addition to the grad school semester from.....  yea.  It's been one heck of a semester.  geology ends on 7/16, thank goodness.  The others end on 8/5 I think.  Not soon enough, in my opinion.

I will try to keep up a little better :)

Update coming...

I know... it's been forever.  A big huge update is coming soon, I promise.  School is KICKING MY... well, you know.  It's a busy time, but there's lots to update.  I promise I will have loads of fun pictures (we went to San Diego last weekend) and stories of the kids soon.  :)

a bubble is better than a cone

Or that's what Kota says anyway....
In an effort to get his wound on his face to heal, we had to put on the cone of shame.  You know that look you get when you put "the cone"...  I couldn't put Kota through it.  I ran to the store and got this ProCollar .  This has been a savior for Kota.  He can see all around him (unlike with the cone of shame) and he gets the benefit of a built in pillow.  :)
it was a little lose here, oops.
What a good sport he is.  It's always Kota.  Poor kid.  He's such a rock solid dog - nothing phases him.  *sigh*  :)  <3 that boy! :)

The Chronicles of Adam 6/06/11 & other things too!

LOOK!  Look what we have!!!!

TWO UPPY EARS!!

Now he's looking like a big dog...

despite being in the process of losing every last hair on her body, she's still beautiful... <3

I had to take Kota to the vet tonight.  Poor Ko had a nasty oozy thing on his face.  Turns out he managed to get himself quite the angry hot spot...  causing an icky dermatitis from his lower jaw line to his inner ear edge.  It's swollen and red and ANGRY.  We're hoping to see significant improvement now that it's cleaned up and we're treating it.  I'd never experienced a hot spot before.  Leave it to KOTA to be the one who would have it.  Poor Ko.  He is ALWAYS the dog who has the odd things happen.
