I finally finished my first draft of my "kennel" site..
Something I've had in the back of my head for a while, but now as Sedona grows, I realize that what I've got is a very special girl who can (and will) contribute to the betterment of the breed.
I'm VERY excited about her... despite her lack of maturity, compared to other girls her age. I've always been of the mind that I would rather a dog mature slow and hold it's maturity into old age, than to have a dog mature too fast and break down later. I remember this mainly in the classes with Dakota. Everything out there was bigger and more mature than he was, it seemed. But in the end, my dog is WELL put together and is not likely to break down any time soon.
In the illustrated standard, it says that "ideally" dogs should weigh between 30-38 lbs and that bitches "ideally" should weigh between 25-34 lbs. Why then, did I feel like I was constantly competing against the mammoths of the puppy dog classes?? I don't feel that way now, in the puppy bitch classes, but in dogs, I see it getting worse and worse (with one particular dog in mind). Structurally, yes... they're nice dogs, but when it comes to size... YOWZA are some of these guys big.
What are YOUR thoughts on this? Or am I just obsessing because of this one BOHEMITH of a dog in my area...?
