Halloween at our house :)

The kids were the official Trick-O-Treater Greeters at the door as in years past... and again, in years past we ran out of candy in ONE HOUR FLAT.
The greeters standing ready at the door for the next swarm of kiddos :)
I would have been able to hand out candy longer (we ran out in a little over an hour... much like last year) had I not have been a bone head and MELTED all the chocolate :( I left it on the dryer and did a large amount of laundry in the last two days... STUPID me!

Our Fall scarecrow :) Actually, this was a housewarming gift from when Daniel and I bought the town home, but I managed to come away with him ;-) I didn't take much in terms of holiday decor, but I liked him, so .... ;-) I'm sure he doesn't miss him ;-)

The kids standing guard... I wrapped purple lights around the baby gate to make it more festive ;-) The dogs, as always, were a huge hit :) I'd hear people from the street "Let's go to the house with the dogs" and heard one kid say "those are scary dogs"... WHAT?! whatever. :P
Yea, scary dogs, these three.... *sigh*
They had to take an intermission and play... ;-)

Kota was standing as door sentry for a bit, so I took the chance to snap his picture... He mostly hung back and let the kids visit with the trick-o-treaters... such the dignified ole man ;-)
This was Sedona's place all night... right at the door watching the goings on... little busy body ;-)

And when Chance tried to take a look, she gave HIM "the look" :)
Finally he pushed his way through. He was the official kid greeter... standing up on the baby gate kissing those who wanted kisses and standing to be petted... such a good boy, that Chance :)
Two peas in a pod, these two :)
And pound pound pound went my door once more and when I finally got to it, it was my friend Rachel's daughter... I wasn't expecting to see them, so it was quite a pleasant surprise :) Overall, Halloween 2007 was alright.... a swarm of kids are STILL in the streets and the neighborhood is like a block party... I stay hunkered down in the house avoiding all the busy-ness... I like my quiet solitude :) I think the dogs had fun though :)

a loss

He was like a father to me... for five and a half years, he harassed me like he was my own father.
Harold Ford took me in and accepted me as part of his family while I was with his son, Daniel. A no nonsense kinda guy, and a little rough around the edges, but he reminded me so much of my own father... down to the clothes they wore, the smoking, the gruff nature...

A few months ago, Harold was diagnosed with oat cell lung cancer... he was a long time smoker and no one was going to tell him he couldn't smoke (*grin*) He was a great conversationalist when one on one and had a heart of gold. He raised 3 sons with his wife of 46 years. He had 3 grandchildren... 2 boys and a girl. He loved those grandkids more than anything :)

Harold lost his fight to cancer this weekend... and while I haven't communicated with him since his son and I broke up, he always had a huge part of my heart. He was the father I didn't have nearby. He always called me "kid". And now... may be always be free of that evil cancer and soar above the clouds.

recent frustrations

As I'm sure those of you who subscribe to SCL have read, my membership to the CWCCA has lapsed due to severe financial troubles I was having this summer. It was *far* more important that I had food to feed myself and my dogs, than it was to renew a membership to a club. Now that my membership lapsed, *some* people (who shall remain nameless to protect their (evil) identities) were very short with me and told me that my only option was to reapply.

When all was said and done word came out about an "extension" that can be applied for, that even long time former board members (Cathy Ochs-Cline, Jennifer Roberson and Karen Harbert) had never heard of.

Karen and Jennifer graciously offered to help me out by sponsoring me again, should it be necessary, but Karen wrote an email to Tricia on my behalf asking if the board could grant me an extension. I'm just getting to know some of these folks, but the email that Karen wrote on my behalf was quite nice... I'm learning that because I have worked for the club, am *working* for the club, and have plans to *continue* working for the club, that they should have no problems giving me the extension I need to renew my membership. We shall see.

I raised cane about it mostly out of principle... I gave thought to NOT renewing the membership at all, but I realized that if I have any hope of taking over *certain* people's positions within the CWCCA, I need to be a member ;-)

Stay tuned for details on membership ;-) I think I might have caught the attention of some folks ;-) (or rather SOME people's unfriendly replies might have as well!)

The show... 2nd day

Shannon Wilson had to sit out due to a back injury today, so she graciously helped me with photos :) Yesterday, my friend Joanie was there and took pictures :)

I can't help but want to caption this one "What the HECK is that in the ring next to us mom!?!?"

he looks so happy to be here :)

I'm working on getting him to NOT be attached to my leg :) He's getting better :)

Mikey & Chance in the last go - round

When I caught Sedona sitting like this, I HAD to snap the picture!!!

she didn't hop nearly as much today and did well, despite not winning anything :)Most of the Winners Bitch line up ... I thought it was a great picture of Sedona :)
All in all we had a good time, but I was happy to be out of there before noon! :)
BOB was Sheryl Holmes' brindle dog (17 months old maybe?) Connor, BOS was Audrey again, BOW was WB Crush (same as yesterday) and WD was Twinroc Living Large (the dog that I thought might have been a Kennebec dog).

Our next shows will be in Tucson on the 17th and 18th of November... We'll be showing to Ms Janina K. Laurin and Mrs Neena L VanCamp :) Sedona will enter in Open (after resounding agreement that she's ready for it) and Chance will still be in 6-9 (barely).

Happy 8 months Chance & our first show since Nationals...

It's hard for me to believe that Chunky puppy is now 8 months old... growing up so fast and just the dearest of dogs....
For his 8 month old birthday we went to a dog show and roasted our tails off.... With a forecasted high of 94, we sure felt it in the mid day, unshaded area.....

Chance was 2nd in his class (losing to Sunspark's Heart Break Kid) There was a Kennebec dog (a red one) entered in 9-12 as well. Mikey (above) is just 6 months and a few days and i was worried about CHANCE being the biggest 6-9 puppy... HA. While Chancey weighs more, Mikey is bigger!
Mikey went WD (there were only the three of us entered in dogs) and Chancey went RWD :)

(Chance & Mikey in 6-9)

Us and the Kennebec dog in for Reserve (I wish I knew his name!)
Going around for reserve
Finishing up the go around (I like this picture a lot actually)
Then with the girls... Sedona (oddly enough) was the only 12-18 bitch entered (Karen Harbert moved Dona Ana (at bottom of page) into Bred by and Kathy Davis moved to Oklahoma). When we went back in for winners, the Open bitch won, and another open bitch (Duane Forbes' bitch Diva bred by Jennifer Roberson) went reserve...

Winners bitch line up... Shannon Wilson up front with Crush (Patimac's First Crush), Karen Harbert with Dona Ana (Aelwyd's Dona Ana), Sedona and I, a new lady whose name I forget and a littermate to the blue bitch Jennifer showed at Nationals (this is Lottie), and Renay Crooker with Dazzle (Mantle SunSpark's Razzle Dazzle) who she got at Nationals.

Going back tomorrow for more.... we show at 9:45am at least, so it won't be scalding hot! It's an hour and a half away, so waking up early doesn't sound fun, but is a necessity... Keep all fingers toes and puppy paws crossed for SOMETHING good for tomorrow :)

dog show weekend....

We're moments away from entering our first dog show weekend since Nationals....

Grandma's Carolyn & Mandy, be on standby for good news... I may be getting hopeful, but I'd rather go in thinking I'm going to win and be disappointed, than to go in thinking I won't win at all... The girl looks GREAT and is ready to show again... so I can only hope for the best :)

Chancey is looking great too... and Grandma's Kim and Chris are on standby :)

I'll post when i return from the show to let you all know how we did...

Keep all fingers toes and all the baby puppy paws crossed for a win for our favorite Phoebe clone :)

our new friends!!! - updated w/ new pics at the bottom

We met Joanie and Ace (and Joanie's kids Violet and Jake too) today :) Joanie and I are almost the same age, and her kids were adorable... Ace, the sable Pembroke was a sweet sweet boy (until he and Kota got into a fight, and then got over it). ;-) Below are a few pictures I took... i wanted to get Joanie's permission to post the rest, since they have her (adorable) daughter in them :) Violet was a little pied piper of dogs... we had a little beagle (see below) join us too :) He had 1 partially blue eye! It was a trip!

We had a great time... the weather couldn't have been better, and it was great for ME to meet another human my age! :) She's hoping to go to the shows this weekend, and she has some experience in the ring.... (my evil brain goes to work here).
**update**
And after getting Joanie's permission, here are the rest of the pictures that had her daughter in them :) I wanted to make sure it was ok to post them....
So here they are :)
(below you can see Snoop the Beagle's blue eye)
Violet LOVED Sedona :) I think it was mutual :)

Here's Violet being a little pied piper of dogs :) too cute :)

the heffers, an update

I weighed Chance the other day... he's 36 pounds (YES, THIRTY SIX pounds). Not sure about the other two, but Kota has lost more weight and looks good and feels good, so he's now on a Maintenance diet ;-) Sedona is getting her food cut back just a small bit so she doesn't get plushy...

Just a reminder, the kids have their first show since Nationals this weekend :) Stay tuned for updates :)

meeting a new friend...

Well ok, two... but who's counting. I'll tell you about our new doggie friend :) Joanie and Ace live nearby. Joanie dropped me an email in September asking about Pem breeders in the area. I wrote her back and gave her some names off of the PWCCA's page and what I knew (which is not a heck of a lot these days in terms of Pembrokes). She wrote back a few days later saying that she started looking at Cardigans etc. She's been getting good sound advice thus far, it seems and has a friend who has a Cardigan from Kathy Steele... Anyway, Ace is a Pem, 6 year old boy, and Joanie wants to get him a friend :) So we're going to meet them tomorrow for a park play date and she's gonna get some serious Cardigan loving. This should prove for a fun photo shoot!! :)

Here's wishing Alice lots of luck... and Carolyn & Tom too!

what the HECK!?

Just a smiling glowey eye'd Kota, right?? Take a second, closer look....

How in the HELL did my dog lose one of his front teeth!?!?! I noticed it when he was smiling at me... i looked and I'll be damned.. it's gone. his teeth are wearing down in the front like great grandma Julie's.... already... he'll have nubbins like her I bet! But DANG! I guess it's a good thing he's finished huh? Can he be shown (if I choose to show him) with a missing tooth?????? Or shall I line up the neuter surgery?
Dumb dumb dog! LOL

I love my days off

I get to spend them with my very best friends.... friends who will smile at me when I cry... friends who make me laugh when I am down... who make me realize that nothing is more important than a chewy bone and dinner :)

Undoubtedly we all fall on hard times here and there, but through my hard times, my best friends have been there to get snuggles and scritches when things are bad.

As sappy as this sounds, I am so grateful that I have my three best friends with me always... and I hate to be away from them. Call me a hermit with no social life.... that's alright. I like my dogs far better than most people these days :)

it runs in the family ;-)

My cousin has rescue greyhounds... (and a mutt ;-) ) I've attached the picture she has on her signature of her emails...

I thought it was so cute that I would try my hand at making my own... but I can't figure out how to get it embedded in my emails like hers are ;-) It turned out cute anyway ;-)

Seems that dog obsession runs in our family ;-) Pam, my cousin, and I didn't really KNOW each other well until I was an adult (she's a bit older than me, with kids a bit younger than I am)... funny how we have the same obsession about our "babies" :)

some life updates

I know that 95% of my posts are about my dogs... but they *are* my life... so ;-)

But this one is going to be about me and all thats been going on in the last few months...

Many of you know about the wonderful guy I was dating, Joey. Yep. Was. As with the guy before him, one day we just stopped talking. We were supposed to go away for a weekend together and he never called again... I sent him a text message asking if he was ok, and I never heard anything back. Cest la vie.

Have had some health issues as of late which have really thrown me (and my doctors) for a loop. I'm hardly keeping any food down... even crackers are going right through. (oh, and this is over the course of 2 months!) Doc says based on that information i should be losing weight, but instead, I'm gaining. Nice huh?
I'm having numbness in my legs that the doc isn't sure where it's coming from, so we took an x-ray of my back.
I have a vision thing going on called Micropsia. Had never heard of it before until I saw it on ABC Primetime (I think I mentioned this earlier). That has the doctor stumped and she wants me to see an optometrist. I tried telling her it has nothing to do with my eyes, but she still wanted me to see him anyway.
When I was talking to the doc about my tummy issues, she said "do you have a gastro doc you'd like to see?" and I welled up with tears (no kidding) and said "yes, but he's in Portland!!!!" So I have an appt with a gastroenterologist (sp?) next month to see if HE can figure out what the heck my tummy is doing. I"m starting to think it was a medicine I was on... cuz I've been off it for a week and my tummy is actually doing a lot better. I'm doing my own experiments on myself now :) Great fun!

I'm settling into my job, but the schedule is still wacky. Not having every weekend off makes it hard to get to dog shows, but I'm working it out the best I can.

Getting excited (here with go with dog talk) for the shows in two weekends... Working the puppy on the table more and more. Sedona hops up there like she's an old seasoned pro.... I hope she does better now that she's older...

The neighborhood is starting to be adorned in Halloween garb... i LOVE my neighborhood during the holidays... SO many of my neighbors decorate... as of this weekend I have 5 houses down my street decorated... another on my way out to the main road... I'm sure they will start popping up more and more as we get closer to Halloween. I don't decorate for Halloween, but I will be home to give out candy. There were SO many trick-or-treaters last year that I ran out of candy in an hour or so. I so badly want to dress the dogs up as a "royal court" with a king, queen or princess and a court jester... Unfortunately I'm on an extremely tight budget that does not allow for the insanely overpriced Halloween costumes from the store... I'm trying to figure out how to do it... any ideas guys? I'm not looking for them to be super extravagant... just a couple of robes for the older kids, and a neck thing and maybe paw things (like scrunchies) for the baby kid. Ideas?

The temps are starting to drop here in the desert... the last few nights have been actually getting chilly when I sit outside with the dogs around midnight or so... it's a NICE change. Last week we were cooler during the day than this week... today was 96 in Tempe, but surprisingly enough it does NOT feel hot... i know, i know... but it feels SOOO much nicer than the zillion degrees we were having...

I found out that Ron Buxton will be judging a sweeps in March for the Canada Del Oro shows in Tucson (I think)... all my brain could think of was how long he had Carbon and knowing how much he loved him... and my Chancey resembles his papa enough (especially in the eyes) that I think Ron could fall for him too :) The combination of Chance's resemblance to his dad and the fact that he truly is an exceptional puppy with incredible movement, I think we might have a good chance under Ron :) Tho Chance won't be a puppy by that time (he'll be 1 in February), we'll still be in sweeps :) I can't wait! :)

I guess that's enough rambling for me for now... if you've made it this far, CONGRATS!!!! :)

too cute for words

They SO adore each other... they're so sweet :) Nothing like some good sibling affection on a Sunday afternoon :)
